I’m excited to announce that, having run many courses for organisations like the Arvon Foundation, New Writing North and First Story, as well as numerous literature festivals, I’m going to be running my own creative writing weekend in Thirsk from Friday 30th November 2018-2nd December. It will be aimed at people who want to take time for themselves and their writing. Whether experienced writers needing a bit of extra input and some time away, or absolute beginners wanting to explore, gain confidence and have fun.
The workshops will take place in a beautiful, peaceful location in the rural market town of Thirsk. Includes accommodation and full board of lovely home cooked meals and refreshments from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime.
The venue is the peaceful retreat of Holyrood Gardens, right in the North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk. Holyrood House
There will be the chance to have coaching in your reading/performance skills and perform alongside Radio 4 regular stand up poet Kate Fox and the acclaimed novelist and nature writer Jonathan Tulloch (His novels include The Season Ticket which became the film Purely Belter, and most recently Larkinland). More about Jonathan
The cost will be £295 from Friday eve meal (and first workshop) to Sunday lunch. Tutor Kate Fox has run workshops for organisations including the Arvon Foundation and First Story as well as numerous literature festivals and projects. Some of her students have gone on to win prizes and become writers and performers for a living- but most importantly, they have been encouraged to find and express their voices.

Testimonials from some of Kate’s previous workshop participants:
Personally I was apprehensive because I felt I lacked the skills and experience needed (I mention this only because you may feel the same). I needn’t have worried and neither do you.
Kate is definitely not a ‘me and them’ person. She immediately engages by proving herself to be an ‘us’ person. She holds your attention by being interested in you and your potential. Kate will gently encourage you to share your thoughts, your ideas and ultimately your words, the culmination of which will give you great satisfaction and pleasure from what you have achieved.
Through Kate’s relaxed, no stress sessions we found the headspace and right motivation to create something that inspired an audience, which in turn took us in new directions in writing and performance.
That encouragement and belief in what I can achieve has helped inform my work and led to me doing more performance than ever before.
Kate’s a very skilful poetry and performance teacher – she’s sensitive, thoughtful, warm and precise. She can really listen to a poem and to a poet and knows just when and how to help.
Kate’s workshops are inspiring, empowering and a joy to take part in. You’ll come away amazed at what you’ve achieved, and excited to create more work.

‘Kate’s workshops are everything you want them to be! With huge amounts of performance experience – and an effortless facilitation style – she always puts everyone at ease, and – most importantly, teaches us loads of stuff.
Kate taught a Poetry course here at Totleigh Barton Arvon Centre which specifically looked at comedy in poetry. The course was very successful. Kate and her fellow tutor, Matt Harvey, managed to create a warm, supportive and inspiring environment and the work produced by the students throughout the week was of a very high standard.
Kate’s workshops were fun and imaginative and she was kind, encouraging and constructive in her tutorials. Kate was lovely to work with, inventive, generous, with a great sense of humour,
